Clopay Garage Doors Add Resale Value to Home on A&E’s “Fix This Yard”

May 23, 2013

For Sale: A true fixer upper by the lake. Fondly described as the "bomb shelter by the bay."

That isn't exactly the description you would want a realtor to post when you are trying to get top dollar for your home.

Sometimes the truth hurts, as a Florida couple recently learned when they put their lakeside ranch on the market "as is", and weren’t finding any takers even though the home was bargain priced for the area.

Part of the problem was that the house looked more like an industrial warehouse than a home sweet home. So the couple’s realtor decided to call in Amy Devers and Alan Luxmore, home improvement experts and hosts of the A&E Network series "Fix This Yard", to give the property the required curb appeal to bring buyers through the door.

The exterior got a total facelift including paint, landscaping, a new driveway, shutters, and doors.

Say goodbye warehouse, hello Mediterranean charm.

The team replaced the existing, mismatched garage doors with Clopay’s low-maintenance Canyon Ridge® Collection Ultra-Grain® Series steel carriage house doors. Clopay dealer Metro Garage Door of Central Floridamanaged the installation.

The homeowners saw the garage doors featured in This Old Housemagazine and thought the faux woodgrain finish would complement the stained shutters, front door, and pergola they also added to the exterior.

The Canyon Ridge Collection Ultra-Grain Series features a durable, low-maintenance steel base door with a simulated stained woodgrain finish. Composite polymer overlays molded from Clear Cypress boards are attached to the surface to create the carriage house designs.

Unlike wood, this garage door is moisture resistant, so it won’t rot, warp, or crack. But it still offers the intricate grain patterns and textures you’d expect to find on real wood. It’s also insulated with Intellicore® for year-round comfort and energy savings.

Before the makeover, the home was listed at $236,000. After the makeover, the homeowners learned they had increased the list value of their home to $253,000. That’s a nice little return on investment, wouldn’t you say?

Find out why This Old House magazine named this Clopay garage door to its Top 100 Products list.
