Clopay garage doors are front and center on two showcase homes open for virtual tours as part of the 2021 International Builders’ Show (IBS): The New American Home® (TNAH) and The New American Remodel® (TNAR).
Presented by the NAHB Leading Supplier’s Council in collaboration with Professional Builder and Professional Remodeler magazines, these homes highlight the latest new construction and remodeling design trends using sustainable construction methods and innovative, energy-efficient products.
This year, the International Builders’ Show moved to an all virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Take the virtual tours at TNAH 2021 and TNAR 2021.
THE NEW AMERICAN HOME 2021
Located in the heart of downtown, Winter Park, Fla., The New American Home 2021 is a stunning three-story single family home designed by The Phil Kean Group to highlight the amenities of modern urban living that can be incorporated even when building on narrow in-fill lots.
Florida Door Solutions installed three Clopay Avante AX garage doors on The New American Home.
The house has an inverted floor plan with a common living area and an outdoor terrace on the top floor to take advantage of the natural light and the views – including NASA launches and fireworks from nearby theme parks.
An attached three car garage on the first level serves as “the front door,” and an elevator has been added for conveniently getting stuff and people to the upper levels.
The garage doors are the first feature you see driving up to the house so it was important to select a beautiful design.
“The garage doors are the first feature you see as you approach the house so it was important to select a beautiful design,” said Katie Kovac, construction manager for The Phil Kean Group. “We selected Clopay’s Avante AX to fit the modern industrial feel of the exterior. The black aluminum frame and frosted glass panels complement the design of the windows and exterior sliding doors perfectly.”
Frosted insulated glass panels provide light and privacy inside the garage.
The garage feels like part of the living space thanks in large part to the frosted insulated glass panels, which fill the space with natural light without compromising privacy.
The doors also have built in WindCode reinforcement for protection from hurricanes.

Phil Kean is known for creating architecturally distinctive spaces and has used Clopay’s Avante glass garage door on other projects, like The New American Home 2017.

That same year, Kean specified a Clopay custom Reserve® Wood door with a louver design to complement the plantation shutters on The New American Remodel exterior.
The TNAR door was the inspiration for Clopay’s Canyon Ridge® Louver series.
THE NEW AMERICAN REMODEL 2021
When E2 Homes undertook the 2021 edition of The New American Remodel, the challenge of reimagining a 1973 mid-century modern lakefront home was considerable to say the least.
Though the home draws its architectural lineage from Frank Lloyd Wright, the cluttered design obscured its potential.
The original layout included five discrete half-levels, vertical board siding, and protruding balconies.
Before: This 1970s house was a neighborhood conversation piece because of its odd structure.
E2 Homes dramatically transformed the home with a modern façade defined by clean horizontal lines, contrasting textures, and large glass doors that offer views of Lake Sue in Northeastern Orlando.
The result is an inspiring example of how an older home can be reinvented for comfortable modern family living with focused design and energy-efficient products and technologies.
After: An extreme makeover with Mid-Century modern appeal.
Clopay’s Canyon Ridge® Modern faux wood garage doors are a standout feature of the home’s updated curb appeal.
Designed to provide the look of wood with less upkeep, the low-maintenance doors are constructed from a UV- and moisture-resistant composite that won’t rot, warp, or crack, which is important in Florida’s hot, humid climate.
The material is molded from actual wood pieces to replicate the texture and grain patterns of the species they emulate.
D and D Garage Doors installed Canyon Ridge Modern doors in the Slate Ultra-Grain finish with aluminum inlays on TNAR.
The garage doors have a two-inch thick polyurethane insulated steel core with an 18.4 R value delivering on the energy-efficiency E2 Homes required for sustainable design.
Clopay Canyon Ridge Modern doors come in Mahogany or Clear Cypress composite cladding that can be painted or stained. Choose from six designs and a variety of glass options.
The New American Home 2018 featured a Canyon Ridge Modern garage door with eight windows in the Walnut stain finish.
The TNAH and TNAR are both designed and built to be net zero and achieve Emerald level status from the National Green Building Standard. They are also Energy Star certified and EPA Indoor airPLUS qualified.
